Scales vs. Songs

I am sure there are a lot of opinions on this so here it goes.  I have been practicing scales for a few months now and it has been going well for the most part.  I feel like I am making decent progress considering my schedule - work/kids etc.  My problem is (and I'm sure it is common) is that I am constantly destracted by the fact that I want to learn songs. My question is this:  How far should one progress on learning scales before you dive in to learning songs?See More

Jason,
Welcome to the Acoustic Newb group. You've probably noticed there are players of all experience and skill levels in the group, and some teachers too, which is great because newer players like us can learn from them as well as from each other. Have fun!

I would like to play with some musicians as I heard that is the best way to learn, also considering taking a few lessons.

I am in the market for a nice acoustic and have been hanging out a lot at GC playing different models. So far I think Martins are my favorite.

I have actually played the guitar on and off for a few years but only lately have gotten half serious by learning scales etc. I got bored with learning songs - that was OK but it left me with a feeling of "OK so now what?"
