Aluminum....not just for siding and TV-dinners anymore!

Well, I bought a couple of sets of the new Ernie Ball Aluminum Bronze strings after reading the reviews; got the medium-light (12-54) set. Usually play w/ the D'Addario EJ16's on my Maritime MJ, although the John Pearse set I tried may have been the best strings I've used on this guitar to date. And I keep the MJ in DADGAD tuning which forces me to practice it every time I pick up the guitar, which is every day. The gauges are similar, except for the A & E strings, which are heavier on the…See More

"That's good to know. Thanks. I am considering a Godin LGX factory blemished model in the future. There was one marked specifically as such on e-bay by the agent. for a markedly discounted price. I am fully in support of that practice if it is…"

"I don't have a problem with alternative materials either. I am in support of making guitars that promote environmental sustainability. But the main thing is honesty. "Mutton parading as lamb" is not cool.    "

"I don't mind as long it is labelled clearly in the sales material. What I'm afraid of is that companies are using cheaper materials and leaving the price the same. I don't know what the relative price of Richlite is, but it would…"

"Good question.  Alternative materials certainly appear to be on the horizon.  Martin has begun using Richlite on the high-end "Performing Artist" PA-1 models and Jeff Tweedy actually specified Richlite for his signature model."

Lions and Tigers....and Richlite!...Oh My!

As if that discussion about B-stock and C-stock wasn't enough, I inadvertently learned that Godin is using Richlite to replace ebony for the fingerboards on several guitars, such as the ACS. As another member opined, the company is going to hell in a handbasket......and one not made of natural materials.Actually, I've played a Martin w/ a Richlite fretboard, and it seemed fine......but it was a guitar costing $1400 and not over 2K like a D-28, etc. Should the gulls be worried.....is there an S6…See More

Joe Brancato replied to Jud Hair's discussion Godin/Seagull policy on selling broken and damaged guitars in the group "Seagull" Spoken Here ... (also fluent in "Godin" Gab)
"I don't have an objection to Godin selling damaged goods as long as they are clearly labeled for the public; the 'B' or 'C' stock designations are too vague for the novice buyer in my opinion. However, one issue not…"

"I also own a Godin LGX...no trem, no synth access. More like an SG + Telecaster hybrid than a Les Paul....soundwise, that is. I used to run the piezo into a Laney acoustic amp and the humbuckers into a Marshall combo for loud club gigs. I thought…"
