"How did your first lesson go? I am using the Learn and Master course (DVD) with Steve Krenz rather than face to face lessons since my work schedule precludes set times. I always wonder what I am missing. Just keep practicing, even when you…"

John Wilson replied to Michael Shaw's discussion What kind of/maker of pick do you like best?
"I like Snarling Dogs Brain picks in 0.53 (Green) to 0.73 (Red) depending on how I feel. I think I have all of the colors/sizes, but I gravitate to these. They are really "grippy". If I don't have one, I tend to use my fingers instead."

John Wilson commented on James Sennett's group Martin Owners
"Jim McHie, congratulations on your HD28. I have read about people putting a cloth bag of coffee or Baking soda in the case with a guitar that had been in a smoking environment to remove the odor, but have never tried it. I do know a good cleaning…"

John Wilson replied to FloridaGull's discussion Taylor GS Mini, Art & Lutherie AMI, Walden T550, Seagull Coastline Cedar Grand/Seagull Entourage Rustic Grand, or...? in the group Small Body Guitars
"No experience, but that's a nice looking guitar too. I think that size is a good match with smaller players.   What am I saying, I would like one as a travel guitar too."

John Wilson replied to FloridaGull's discussion Baby Taylor, Art & Lutherie AMI, or...? in the group Small Body Guitars
"2 years ago, I bought my daughter (same size as yours) a like-new Taylor Big Baby off of CL for the price of a new Taylor Baby. She loves that guitar and the size is a great fit.Quality and sound is great. If I was doing it again, I would…"

John Wilson replied to Central Valley Musician's discussion What Learning path have you gone on in your playing? Any of these? in the group Small Body Guitars
"After trying several books and DVD series, I finally sprung for Steve Krenz' Learn and Master Guitar course. I think that it is the best course available and I appreciate the depth and breadth of the material. He starts at zero and goes step by…"

John Wilson commented on James Sennett's group Martin Owners
"For hygrometers, I use the ones intended for reptile environments that you can get at PetSmart or another pet store. I think I paid less than $5 for each of them. They track within about 1% indicated humidity of the expensive one. Most of the time…"

John Wilson replied to Ron Lane's discussion What's in a name? DX1 ? in the group Martin Owners
"Or, like me, you might decide that even though you graduated from college 20-some years ago and could afford a much, much better guitar, you just don't want to."

John Wilson commented on James Sennett's group Martin Owners
"I have a Fender with a solid spruce top like that. It still sounds great and has a ring that makes me smile when I pick it up. I only played about 2 dozen of THAT model before I picked it out as the best of them all. However, I knew that I would be…"

John Wilson commented on James Sennett's group Martin Owners
"James, my choice of guitar was helped in several ways. First is, I like the sound of Sitka Spruce solid tops. Secondly, the stratabond neck is very strong and appeals to my eyes more than any other wood. The third thing I realized after playing ALOT…"
