Karen Davis posted a blog postTuesday is my longest work day of the week starting at 9 AM when I leave the house, wrapping up whenever everything's done. This involves 3 hours on the subway, and about an hour of walking.
Fun part #1 is the teaching - 1 general music class with the little ones at Montessori plus 4 piano lessons at Monte. I'm teaching them about Tchaikowski, and we're listening to the 1812 Overture. They go nuts every time they hear the cannons. The little little ones (2.5 - 4) rock out…

Interesting evening. I thought I'd be playing, but when we got to the Tea Bar, the place was closed. Locked up, closed. This is a first. I looked through my messages - there was a facebook message that must have slipped by me, asking me if I was still interested in the gig. No phone call, no e-mail - just a facebook message. I love facebook, but this is not the be-all-end-all of business communication. Anyway, the joint was CLOSED - chairs on the…

It's finally warm - I can wear my cute clothes - and just one layer at a time, I might add. Looks like we won;t be having any more t-shirt and two sweater days for a while. Hurray! We have a nursong home gig today - nursing homes are almost always REALLY hot - fortunately today it's warm enough outside so I can wear somethng that won't suffocate me when we're inside. This is the upside.
The downside is finding a dress/skirt that can be appropriate for Easter (nothing will…

Working on a new set of songs - have 2 written and a 3rd on the way. I've decided to experiment with blues/blues rock for the next recording. What I didn't expect was to have so many extra (extraneous?) ideas that want to grow themselves into full songs. Usually, I have one, maybe two ideas, at a time that are viable. These get turned over as I ride or walk around town, or as I sit down to do that day's writing. Now, I've got 3 ideas that are definitely viable and 2 or 3 more that may turn…

chris mirabile said… Hi Karen,
The gig scene is pretty reasonable. There is a decent amount of pub work, which is of course a different beast to the festivals, folk clubs and music venues where you can play more original material, not that you cannot do this at music pubs,it is just that we tend to play more songs that people will know (at music pubs).
Here is the name of a promoter who I know.Contact him and see.His name is Michael Pipe, here is his e-mail address.Good luck and stay in touch.
