Lennie Schoonover's Blog

new guitar

I'm not sure how this whole blog thing works, but it sounds like a diary that everyone can read.  I've been playing a Seagull M12 for about 6 months and just bought a new Seagull 25th Aniversary Model Mahogany/Spruce.  I couldn't be happier.  I have been chastized by my good friend John from Colorado as he says I should buy a Martin.  Well the Seagull company makes a guitar that sounds to me just as nice and it is a whole lot less money.  Besides, I really like the 1.8" neck width for my long… Continue

Hi Lennie

Would you happen to know of a respected luthier in the Seattle area? I'm pondering a guitar out that way, and might ask the owner to bring it into a recommended guitar shop. I can't fly out to see and play it, and would need a professional's advice.

thanx in advance,

Michael

I think I ate it.  It was however very filling.  DO you mess around with alternate tunings?  lately, post 25th Anniversary purchase,  I find myself tuning to a drop D or Double Drop D as well as Drop A.  The guitar will just throb with bass and the clear high tones ring through.  I have never heard a better guitar.  I like it better than my friend Ron's 1968 Martin D45. I must say though his is prettier and sounds as good.  Funny thing is we paid about the same.  He bought his in 1968 for about $800 new. Hate to say it but I paid a little less than that with the LR Baggs iBeam installed.  His is worth a lot, mine not so much.  I think 44 years from now it might be.  I was told by Seagull that only about 1000 Anniversary Editions were built.  So I am thinking yours is a later build than mine because your SN  is larger than mine.  It is a beautiful thing and just think there are like 998 more of them.  That's a lot of happy people.

Hey Lennie!  I have a 25th Anniversary Gull as well.  I agree that it sounds fantastic.

Plays great and is less filling.

Thanks for the shout out, Lennie. Been kind of busy, not leaving much time for practice, but I'm trying. The other forum was just killed by Spam. Pity because there was a good community there.

Lennie ---

"Wildwood Flower" ...  boy does that bring back memories!  My band back in high school had a gig up in theBblue Ridge mountains of North Carolina.  Not sure at all, why they hired us since we palyed mostly stuff like Cream, Jimi Hendix, and Jefferson Airplane, etc.

Anyway, we went through our first set and we could see that we were going over like the proverbial lead balloon.  When we took our first break, this good old boy approaches us and says, I' don't know whut that it that y'all are'a playin', but we all want to hear a "Buck Dance" ... We said a whut??  He said, a "Buck Dance" ... you, know Wildwood Flower and such ...

We'll luckily our lead guitarist knew Wildwood Flower and we literally played a 20 minute set of nothing but, before  packing up our stuff and high-tsailing it during our next "brelk"??

That was a night we still talk about all these years later.

Hey Lennie .. Welcome to Seagull chat!  Tell us a little about your self.

I see you have a Seagull 12.  I played a 12 string electric ( A Hagstrom) back in the day when I fancied myself the next Roger McGuinn (Remenber him? The Byrds?)  Gave it up because I absolutely could NOT keep it in tune (before the days of electronic tuners).

What do you like to play on your Seagull 12 ??
