Taylor GS Mini

I'm in the market for a new axe; a small-bodied acoustic.   Dropped by Guitar Center today to see if they had any of the ones I'd been researching. The Yamaha LS6 was in stock; an impressive…Continue

Mark Werner replied to Christin Ellington's discussion 3 string notes, cords
"Just because the guitar has six strings, it doesn't mean you have to play all of 'em.  The essential chord is a "triad", three notes including the root, third, and fifth note of the respective scale. If you limit yourself to…"

Mark Werner replied to Jud Hair's discussion Passive Soundhole Pickups ... Anybody using one?
"I can't give you any specifics on the soundhole pickups....Most are electromagnetic, like electric guitar pickups.  The vibrating string excites the magnetic field and the signal is amplified.   Most of them sound like…"

Mark Werner replied to David Youngman's discussion Making Real Music
"Performance and performance style are highly individualistic and I don't think anyone has a lock on what works and what doesn't.  We see folks who stand like statues and others who throw themselves around the stage like…"

Mark Werner replied to Rahul Patwari's discussion How can I price a guitar (National Reso-Phonic Style "O" 2000)
"Don't know if this will help... I sell a lot of refurbished bicycles.  My usual practice is to take half the retail (MSRP) and then adjust up or down according to condition, desireability, etc. With guitars, you have to consider that…"

Mark Werner replied to Jesse C. Greer's discussion Martin Guitars and Truss Rods
"It wasn't that old Martins didn't use truss rods, they used a fixed, non-adjustable rod that was fitted to the neck before the fingerboard was glued on. You can see these clearly at the…"

Mark Werner replied to Bill's discussion Cutting Through the Online/L&M the Guitar Hype
"I'll give you my standpoint from the opposite side.     I'm pretty much from the "good enough for folk music" crowd.   There are those who are, by dint of their personality, to seek perfection and…"

Mark Werner replied to Kelsey Hunter's discussion Ok was this repair a bad idea?
"Sounds like they did the old cheap-and-easy "repair" of filling in the nut slot (usually with glue and powdered material) to raise the action on that string. NOT what you'd expect on a quality guitar.  As said above, find the…"

Mark Werner replied to Ted Furcinito's discussion Taylor 414 CE
"Well, I went for the "cheap" Taylor.  I bought a GS Mini.  a mere 500.00.   Nice little axe.    It's a small-bodied instrument with laminate sapele sides and back and a solid top. The reviews on this…"

Mark Werner replied to Lee's discussion "opening up" a new guitar...
"Over at the "other" acoustic guitar discussion board:   We had an extensive discussion on this in the "general" thread.   No firm conclusions.  …"

Mark Werner replied to Dan Crocker's discussion Need help identifying 2 acoustics i picked up
"There ya go...    "Mountain", according to the first hit on Google, is a 70s Japanese brand.  At that time, the Japanese were busily producing thousands of guitars, most of which were copies of quality…"

Mark Werner replied to Joel's discussion Affordable fingerstyle guitar
"I believe Epiphone is still making their "Masterbilt" Fingerstyle guitar as well.     I just bought a Taylor, the small-bodied GS Mini model, and it's very nice. Couldn't say how it would handle the percussive…"
