Patrick Curley replied to Tom Jarema's discussion Holding The Guitar
"I like to use a strap all the time and I tend to have it higher than most just so I don't have to bend my left wrist too far."

Patrick Curley replied to Terry Doran's discussion Proper Capo Placement
"Some capos bend the strings a little as they clamp on the neck. I use a G7 capo, you put it in place evenly over all 6 strings and just give a gentle squeeze and it holds. I have much fewer tuning problems."

Patrick Curley replied to Paul's discussion Arrangements in the group Fingerstyle players
"I'm in the process of developing a few web applications for guitar players. If I built a site that people could contribute arrangements to would you be interested in paying for them? If so how much? I'd have thought at least $10 for a good…"

Patrick Curley replied to James Andrassy's discussion Resonator in the group Country Blues
"Regal make reasonable instruments as well.    I bought myself a cheap epiphone which sounded like a cheap epiphone until I got a new cone for it. The cone makes the sound and the difference between a good one and a cheap one is significant…"

Patrick Curley replied to Do Mi Stauber's discussion Vocal microphones in the group General PA for acoustic amplification, voice, and small groups
"Get an SM58, it's not the industry standard for nothing. I use an AKG D5 and a 58 and while I was real keen on the D5 when I first got it I'm drifting back to the 58 just because it's a sound that I recognise as will most people that…"

General PA for acoustic amplification, voice, and small groups

This group provides members an opportunity to discuss experiences and advice regarding amplifying guitars and voices for various venues. Not to be limited to any particular system, but rather examining all reasonable options.

Patrick Curley replied to Nebojsa Bojer's discussion To barre or not to barre in the group Country Blues
"I've seen it (the thumb over the top) used to free up another finger but other than that I'm not convinced that it's an essential technique. I use it occasionally but prefer to barre when possible. It is also quite an awkward position…"

Patrick Curley replied to Ben Hagstad's discussion What condenser mics can be used live?
"I use a RODE M3, it's relatively cheap and it will always sound better than a pickup. I've also got the Fishman humbucker blend (with the little mic inside the guitar) which is good too but nothing beats the M3. You have to watch your…"

Patrick Curley replied to Mark Miller's discussion difficult chord fingerings in the group Fingerstyle players
"It's a good thing to question advice that you've been given, it'll help you reinforce good advice and steer you clear of not so helpful information. Be careful of having input from too many people though, especially on the internet…"

Rusty Luthe replied to Patrick Curley's discussion Bonnie Rait in the group Country Blues

Charles replied to Patrick Curley's discussion Bonnie Rait in the group Country Blues
"I agree wholeheartedly concerning Koerner, Glover and Ray. However, I recall that Koerner played a 7 string guitar and Tony "Little Sun" Glover played harmonica. Dave Ray was the 12 string player. I also wore out my albums but recently…"

Rusty Luthe replied to Patrick Curley's discussion Bonnie Rait in the group Country Blues
"Yeah she's da best! If you do a little research into Ms. Rait's early days it will lead you right to the late, great, Dave Ray, of Koerner, Ray, and Glover fame. If you are not familiar with these guys then you owe it to yourself to get…"
