Paul Cohen replied to Paul Cohen's discussion Audacity in the group Home Recording
"Not at all. I used it with the audio card that came in my 1990's PC with no problem except that I couldn't record in stereo. Actually there is a small bug in Audacity when you use it as I do, with the installed audio card for sound output…"

Paul Cohen replied to Paul Cohen's discussion Audacity in the group Home Recording
"Applying Effects in Audacity Whenever you apply an effect in Audacity there is the possibility (probability?) that you will overdo it, at least the first time. Of course, Audacity allows you to preview the effect and that helps, though each trial…"

Paul Cohen replied to Paul Cohen's discussion Recording on a Tight Budget in the group Home Recording
"Guitar Pickup The guitar that I've owned the longest is a Kamouraska 485 that I picked up used at a luthier's shop in San Jose. Someone had traded it in after having the shop install a microphone in it. Of course I had to hear what the…"

Paul Cohen replied to Kevin Richard Nightingale's discussion changing steel strings to nylon on a guitar built for steel strings. in the group Fingerstyle players
"I recall being told that nylon string guitars have different internal bridging than steel string guitars, so the tone may not be optimum. There is no such bridging in a banjo though, and I did this to a six-string banjo recently with very good…"

From concept to construction, vision to fruition. Let's work on a basis of structure in order to stimulate creativity. IE: Blues in the key of B flat 12/8 time, for my dearly departed dog wooffie. LOL. You get the picture.

Paul Cohen replied to David Rigby's discussion USB to 1/4" cords in the group Home Recording
"I use such an interface with Audacity with no trouble at all. For the record what I use is an EDIROL UQ-1X. If my memory serves me I paid $29 for it and it gives me two channels, not just the one that my sound card allows. By the way, this would…"

Paul Cohen replied to Paul Cohen's discussion Audacity in the group Home Recording
"It is possible to configure the working window of Audacity, moving adding and deleting buttons, toolbars, etc., but I thought it useful to show a typical screen that I use. I use a Editrol UA-1X interface to capture sound in stereo and for the…"

The recordings that I uploaded are just songs that I recorded on simple equipment for the purpose of reviewing what I sound like. They are a good sample of the kind of thing I've been doing with the guitar recently, in case anyone is interested.

Added on 6/20/09:
I have been experimenting with various short capo's and some of the recordings depend on them. For example, Danny Boy and California Dreaming use a DADGAD capo. America the Beautiful, On Blue Bayou and Morgantown all use that same capo but upside down, as an open-A Capo. I just added a tune of my own, I Don't Know How that was motivated by cutting and filing a standard capo to fret strings 1-2-6 (at fret3) and a second capo to fret string 5 at fret 2. This gives me an open-G effect that sounds nice, but I found I Don't Know How to play anything using it. I also felt I Don't Know How to compose anything.

We didn't try them on or design them for nylon string guitars. If they sell well and there is a demand, we will look into making them for other guitars. Other than that, ask you local music store to get some in and then try them on your nylon string guitar and see if they work. Let me know how that goes. Thanks for the interest.
