Paul H replied to Jack Slotterback's discussion My First Seagull- S6 Original in the group "Seagull" Spoken Here ... (also fluent in "Godin" Gab)
"Welcome, Jack! Glad to see you're enjoying your new S6. My very first acoustic was a '93 S(6), which I still own. The cedar top is a bit beaten & battered, but it's hanging in there.  Since I started learning on the wide…"

Paul H replied to Chuck Hydrick's discussion What strings are you guys (& gals) using? in the group "Seagull" Spoken Here ... (also fluent in "Godin" Gab)
"I use mostly D'Addario EJ-16s on my S6 Cedar.  I'll mix it up now & then with a set of Martin 80/20s or Martin Bluegrass, but I always come back to the EJ-16s.  I'm not a big fan of the coated strings."

Paul H replied to Dave Fengler's discussion Old Seagull S6 in the group "Seagull" Spoken Here ... (also fluent in "Godin" Gab)
"Cracks in the top can be easily & cheaply repaired by a decent luthier.  I have a 1993 S6 ( that looks very similar to the one in your photo) that had a couple top cracks.  My guitar tech cleated them both for about $60 if I remember…"

Paul H replied to Jud Hair's discussion Simon & Patrick Cedar Folk sound demo ... A couple of new covers in the group "Seagull" Spoken Here ... (also fluent in "Godin" Gab)
"Nice job!  Agree with Florida Gull - the strumming in "Cowgirl" is much louder than the fingerpicking.  But it looks like you were also much further from the camera & mic  when doing the fingerpicking.  Audio…"

Paul H replied to CaliGull's discussion Struggling with my S6 in the group "Seagull" Spoken Here ... (also fluent in "Godin" Gab)
"Sounds like you could try one of those "guitarest" devices, that allows you to adjust the guitar's position in your lap. I've never used one, but know folks who swear by them.  Here's an…"

Paul H replied to Jake Hoyles's discussion tuner problems? in the group "Seagull" Spoken Here ... (also fluent in "Godin" Gab)
"I would skip the electronic tuner for now and do it by ear using an old-style pitch pipe, or an online guitar tuner such as the one at chordbook.com.  That should get you in the ballpark, then use your electronic tuner to fine-tune.  Good…"

Paul H replied to Jud Hair's discussion Your great-grandfather's acoustic guitar ... (from discussion I started on another board) in the group "Seagull" Spoken Here ... (also fluent in "Godin" Gab)
"I think there's a lot more awareness these days.  People are more informed now by forums like this one.  I never gave a thought about humidity control 20 yrs ago when I bought my S6.  There were few, if any internet forums to…"

Paul H replied to Jud Hair's discussion Raise your hand if you're a primarily a "Just a Strummer" ... in the group "Seagull" Spoken Here ... (also fluent in "Godin" Gab)
"Great discussion!  I'd been so focused on my fingerstyle & right hand drills, I'd forgotten about the fun of strumming.  Especially in the cooler winter weather, it takes forever for my right hand to loosen up.  So,…"

Paul H replied to Jud Hair's discussion When you casually pick up your guitar, WHAT SONG do you most often play first? in the group "Seagull" Spoken Here ... (also fluent in "Godin" Gab)
"I'm a longtime strummer, but recently have gotten into fingerstyle.  "Blackbird" has been getting a lot of time on my 'gull and it sounds great!"

Paul H replied to FloridaGull's discussion Old Seagull S6 - 5 digit serial number! - great shape! in the group "Seagull" Spoken Here ... (also fluent in "Godin" Gab)
"Early 90's sounds about right.  My '93 has a serial #66016.  It does look like the pickguard was moved."

Paul H replied to Jud Hair's discussion SURVEY: Why did YOU buy a SEAGULL ?? (or other Godin instrument) in the group "Seagull" Spoken Here ... (also fluent in "Godin" Gab)
"The dings & scratches (otherwise known as "mojo" :)  don't really bother me.  It just goes with having a cedar-topped guitar. But sure, I'd be interested in seeing what you have - thanks!"

Paul H replied to Jud Hair's discussion SURVEY: Why did YOU buy a SEAGULL ?? (or other Godin instrument) in the group "Seagull" Spoken Here ... (also fluent in "Godin" Gab)
"I bought my S6 new back in '93.  I had played some electric until then, and really knew nothing about acoustic guitars.  This was in my pre-internet days, so I researched "quality beginner" acoustic guitars in every magazine…"
