Info re Samick Greg Bennett Design GOM100 S/N

A friend is selling a Samick GOM 100 S/N - I'd appreciate any info anyone might have on these guitars. It is orchestra-sized, with  a solid spruce top and a compensated bridge saddle. It plays…Continue

UPDATE: Removing High Gloss Scratches

My Sigma classical has some light scratching on the top - mostly very light pick marks, and one nastier surface scratch resulting from the end of an A string scraping the finish while being poked…Continue

Blackback Gull commented on GNuck's group Small Body Guitars
"Maybe I should have said "smaller-body guitars"...the RO-10 feels a lot tidier than my Seagull S6 - mainly a matter of depth, I think - feel like I have to wrap myself around the dread, while the 000 nestles into me. I also have an A&L…"

Blackback Gull commented on GNuck's group Small Body Guitars
"The Newton Heritage strings - I use the 10-43 lights - just seem to have a clarity and balance that suits the RO-10's 000 body really well - great sound for fingerpicking, which is what these small-body guitars excel at. That's an…"

Blackback Gull commented on GNuck's group Small Body Guitars
"Welcome to the world of RK guitars, Jeff - sounds like you've got yourself a winner! I've got an RO-10, the same 000 body as your RO-06 but with the solid back and sides - an absolute little beauty of a guitar that knocks the spots off a…"

Blackback Gull replied to Craig Fowler's discussion Does any group member of this forum own ALL the Godin brand guitars? (Not multiples of one brand) in the group "Seagull" Spoken Here ... (also fluent in "Godin" Gab)
"Just two here - a venerable S6 that's old enough to not be an 'Original S6', and an Art&Lutherie AMI Wild Cherry that I found via Kijiji in Nova Scotia and gang-pressed family into buying and delivering for me. Oh, and a Griffiths…"

Blackback Gull commented on GNuck's group Small Body Guitars
"I have a blue AMI Wild Cherry I picked for $75, sight unseen, on Kijiji a few years ago. Great little instrument - " Barks pretty good for a small dog", as a friend says...kind of a snappy, snarly tone, great for doing a few blues licks..."

"Appreciate the info, Tony - I use uncoated strings on all my guitars - always reckoned they just stretched and deadened over time - oxidation makes sense..."

Blackback Gull replied to Lennie Schoonover's discussion Do Strings go bad if you don't play them? in the group "Seagull" Spoken Here ... (also fluent in "Godin" Gab)
"I think it's the tension that deadens them, even if they're not being played. I( have several guitars, and most of 'em spend most of their time in the case. After a lobg layoff, new strings do indeed make a difference - at least to my…"

Blackback Gull replied to FloridaGull's discussion Lightweight case (polyfoam) for an OM guitar? in the group Small Body Guitars
"My Recording King RO10 fits nicely in a  TRIC case that has an inner liner shaped for a mini-jumbo - can't get measurements right now, as the RO10 and the case case are at the cabin 250 kms. away. I'll be back there in about two…"

Blackback Gull replied to Mike Howell's discussion love my new s6 in the group "Seagull" Spoken Here ... (also fluent in "Godin" Gab)
"The S6 has to be one of the very best bang-for-the-buck guitars made, and my A&L Ami is a pretty  close second. I don't think Godin knows how to make a bad guitar..."

Blackback Gull commented on GNuck's group Small Body Guitars
"The Recording King RO-10 and RO-06 are OOO body guitars, 1.75 nut. Love my RO-10, despite some problems - see the RO-10 Update post for details. They retail for about $350, solid spruce over solid mahogany - the RO-06 has lam sides and back, hence…"

Blackback Gull replied to Jud Hair's discussion My quick & unscientific 3-guitar comparison "Martin vs Taylor vs Seagull" in the group "Seagull" Spoken Here ... (also fluent in "Godin" Gab)
"Assuming they are in the order you list... Martin - very clean, distinct sound. Taylor - clean and distinct, less volume. Seagull - Warmer, richer sound. Be hard for me to pick one based on the strummed sample - tend to judge more by fingerpicked…"

Blackback Gull replied to Rob W's discussion Has anybody seen a Seagull label like this before? in the group "Seagull" Spoken Here ... (also fluent in "Godin" Gab)
"Assuming the guitar is in good shape, I think it's a reasonable deal. I found my S6, with a Forte case, for $225, but my top looks like a beaver teethed on it. Doesn't hurt the sound  at all, of course, and I don't mind character…"

I do get to Newfoundland once a year.  I have a grand daughter in St. John's and Maggie and I go down each fall.  My son is a cook at the Cathedral Street Bistro.

Blackback Gull, I will give it a shot, and let you know.  It would be nice to play somewhat pain free, huh. ;-)  Thanks!

Richard ... I saw your e-mail message to the group.  I could be wroing, but I think you have to have "friended" members before a message will ge through.  The mssage wouldn't let me reply to you.  Suggest you put the question directly on the forum for everyone to see.

I uses "Elixer nano coated light gauge phospher bronze" strings and I also use a product called "Fast Fret" which is a string lubricant.  Doing this has not totally eliminated string "squeak", but it has cut way down on it.
