A friend is selling a Samick GOM 100 S/N - I'd appreciate any info anyone might have on these guitars. It is orchestra-sized, with  a solid spruce top and a compensated bridge saddle. It plays…Continue

UPDATE: Removing High Gloss Scratches

My Sigma classical has some light scratching on the top - mostly very light pick marks, and one nastier surface scratch resulting from the end of an A string scraping the finish while being poked…Continue

"The guitars that usually sit out here both have solid tops - one is all-solid wood. I use the poor-boy humidifiers in 'em...saturate a chunk of good quality sponge, squeeze it out, put it in a perforated baggie or soap dish, and chuck it in the…"

"They look a really cute pair of guitars. Yes a bone saddle should make a big difference, without any shims fitted. Maybe a stupid question, what is that on the front of the AMI. Just below the bridge."

Blackback Gull commented on Ted Hechtman's group Crafter Owners
""Got it for a hundred bucks!!!" Ha, ha, ha...so did I!!! I know it's entry level in the Crafter line (LITE/TRV-SP), but it's a pretty solid entry. The new strings are settling in, and the sound is much cleaner and richer with a…"

Blackback Gull commented on Ted Hechtman's group Crafter Owners
"Found this today - just over a year old, 9.5/10 shape - came with a  gig bag, tuner, stand and capo. If this is entry level with Crafter, there must be some fine guitars up the line. Solid sitka top, lam-hog back and sides, convex back,…"

Crafter Owners

A group for owners of a guitar that, to my ear, is one hell of a fine instrument and way underrepresented in the United States. You got one? Tell us about it!!!

Blackback Gull replied to Blackback Gull's discussion Gee, Ma, Look What Followed Me Home... in the group Small Body Guitars
"It sure does have the convex back, Derick - just got thru restringing it with Martin FX and giving the fretboard a lemon oil bath, nice tidy build, everything fits as it ought to. Plays pretty nice, too - a tad stiff, but it looks like the nut slots…"

Gee, Ma, Look What Followed Me Home...

Gee, Ma, can I keep it?Was supposed to be having an eye out for a friend who wants a travel guitar as his first instrument - spotted this one, a Crafter LITE/TRV-SP on Kijiji - absolutely mint, about 1.5 years old - solid sitka top, lam-hog back and sides, a cutaway!,  rosewood fingerboard and bridge, came with a gig bag, tuner, stand and capo. Strings are original - so they'll be getting swapped out in short order. Lovely little thing - very tidy build, and the action is 9/10, especially…See More

I do get to Newfoundland once a year.  I have a grand daughter in St. John's and Maggie and I go down each fall.  My son is a cook at the Cathedral Street Bistro.

Blackback Gull, I will give it a shot, and let you know.  It would be nice to play somewhat pain free, huh. ;-)  Thanks!

Richard ... I saw your e-mail message to the group.  I could be wroing, but I think you have to have "friended" members before a message will ge through.  The mssage wouldn't let me reply to you.  Suggest you put the question directly on the forum for everyone to see.

I uses "Elixer nano coated light gauge phospher bronze" strings and I also use a product called "Fast Fret" which is a string lubricant.  Doing this has not totally eliminated string "squeak", but it has cut way down on it.
