Info re Samick Greg Bennett Design GOM100 S/N

A friend is selling a Samick GOM 100 S/N - I'd appreciate any info anyone might have on these guitars. It is orchestra-sized, with  a solid spruce top and a compensated bridge saddle. It plays…Continue

UPDATE: Removing High Gloss Scratches

My Sigma classical has some light scratching on the top - mostly very light pick marks, and one nastier surface scratch resulting from the end of an A string scraping the finish while being poked…Continue

"My Recording King RO10 fits nicely in a  TRIC case that has an inner liner shaped for a mini-jumbo - can't get measurements right now, as the RO10 and the case case are at the cabin 250 kms. away. I'll be back there in about two…"

Blackback Gull commented on GNuck's group Small Body Guitars
"The Recording King RO-10 and RO-06 are OOO body guitars, 1.75 nut. Love my RO-10, despite some problems - see the RO-10 Update post for details. They retail for about $350, solid spruce over solid mahogany - the RO-06 has lam sides and back, hence…"

Blackback Gull replied to Jud Hair's discussion My quick & unscientific 3-guitar comparison "Martin vs Taylor vs Seagull" in the group "Seagull" Spoken Here ... (also fluent in "Godin" Gab)
"Assuming they are in the order you list... Martin - very clean, distinct sound. Taylor - clean and distinct, less volume. Seagull - Warmer, richer sound. Be hard for me to pick one based on the strummed sample - tend to judge more by fingerpicked…"

"Assuming the guitar is in good shape, I think it's a reasonable deal. I found my S6, with a Forte case, for $225, but my top looks like a beaver teethed on it. Doesn't hurt the sound  at all, of course, and I don't mind character…"

Updates, RO 10

The 'Pound Puppy', as my RO 10 has become known, is coming around nicely. Since acquiring it, the bridge has been reglued properly by someone who knows what he's doing, the action's been worked on, the neck relief adjusted,  there's been some minor fret dressing and several string changes.  Right now, it`s strung with the Newtone Acoustic Heritage Series NHS-010 (10-43)... interesting strings, very low tension, equal across the strings, and hence good for lightly built or elderly instruments.…See More

I do get to Newfoundland once a year.  I have a grand daughter in St. John's and Maggie and I go down each fall.  My son is a cook at the Cathedral Street Bistro.

Blackback Gull, I will give it a shot, and let you know.  It would be nice to play somewhat pain free, huh. ;-)  Thanks!

Richard ... I saw your e-mail message to the group.  I could be wroing, but I think you have to have "friended" members before a message will ge through.  The mssage wouldn't let me reply to you.  Suggest you put the question directly on the forum for everyone to see.

I uses "Elixer nano coated light gauge phospher bronze" strings and I also use a product called "Fast Fret" which is a string lubricant.  Doing this has not totally eliminated string "squeak", but it has cut way down on it.
