Info re Samick Greg Bennett Design GOM100 S/N

A friend is selling a Samick GOM 100 S/N - I'd appreciate any info anyone might have on these guitars. It is orchestra-sized, with  a solid spruce top and a compensated bridge saddle. It plays…Continue

UPDATE: Removing High Gloss Scratches

My Sigma classical has some light scratching on the top - mostly very light pick marks, and one nastier surface scratch resulting from the end of an A string scraping the finish while being poked…Continue

Are We Allowed In???

Guess that depends on how we define 'small'...Here's the latest arrival...2003 Washburn J12SN - described as a 'medium jumbo' - somewhat larger and curvier body than my Recording King RO-10, but definitely not jumbo/dreadnaught size. Really comfortable guitar - fits well, solid spruce top over a deep-waisted rosewood lam body.…See More

"I have three flat tops.  My Gibson LG1 has a Baggs Element.  This has a 9 volt battery pack and a volume control in the sound hole.  It's not as acoustic sounding as a mic, but it's pretty good, especially if you use a…"

Which Pickup? Which Amp?

Silly question, but...I have a  couple of Dean Markley acoustic pickups - one ProMag Plus soundhole, which Markley's website describes as a 'single coil', and one Transducer Artist 'stick-on' described as a peizo. I also have a  choice of amps - a Peavey Bandit 112, and a Laney LA 30C acoustic amp. Be interested in knowing which pickup/amp combo folks feel would work best with my Recording King RO-10. Kinda new to all this electronica...lol...See More

"Maybe I should have said "smaller-body guitars"...the RO-10 feels a lot tidier than my Seagull S6 - mainly a matter of depth, I think - feel like I have to wrap myself around the dread, while the 000 nestles into me. I also have an A&L…"

"The Newton Heritage strings - I use the 10-43 lights - just seem to have a clarity and balance that suits the RO-10's 000 body really well - great sound for fingerpicking, which is what these small-body guitars excel at. That's an…"

"Welcome to the world of RK guitars, Jeff - sounds like you've got yourself a winner! I've got an RO-10, the same 000 body as your RO-06 but with the solid back and sides - an absolute little beauty of a guitar that knocks the spots off a…"

"I think it's the tension that deadens them, even if they're not being played. I( have several guitars, and most of 'em spend most of their time in the case. After a lobg layoff, new strings do indeed make a difference - at least to my…"

I do get to Newfoundland once a year.  I have a grand daughter in St. John's and Maggie and I go down each fall.  My son is a cook at the Cathedral Street Bistro.

Blackback Gull, I will give it a shot, and let you know.  It would be nice to play somewhat pain free, huh. ;-)  Thanks!

Richard ... I saw your e-mail message to the group.  I could be wroing, but I think you have to have "friended" members before a message will ge through.  The mssage wouldn't let me reply to you.  Suggest you put the question directly on the forum for everyone to see.

I uses "Elixer nano coated light gauge phospher bronze" strings and I also use a product called "Fast Fret" which is a string lubricant.  Doing this has not totally eliminated string "squeak", but it has cut way down on it.
