Gurian Guitars & Intonation

Ron Roszkiewicz replied to Jud Hair's discussion If you could only own ONE acoustic for the rest of your life ...
"I would own an anniversary, highly ornate, Martin D-28 with all of that crazy Larry Robinson inlay on it. So the $100K valuation would probably increase over my remaining years and every time I opened the case it would be a unique "holy…"

Michael T. Swisher replied to Ron Roszkiewicz's discussion Little Cutie in the group Small Body Guitars
"Ron, I always pick up any Larivee parlor I run across (I admire their L model as well). Sadly, it always seems that the strings are flat and I never get a good reading about the sound. Here in the South, the only place to play one is Sam Ash and…"

Ron Roszkiewicz replied to charles e stinnett's discussion Love of Martin Guitars
"It was a new guitar. I am sort of getting used to seeing simpler appointments, figured veneer/plywood sides and backs and other cost cutting done to guitars in the $500-1500 range. I was surprised that with a list of $2500 and a street price of…"

Ron Roszkiewicz replied to charles e stinnett's discussion Love of Martin Guitars
"I guess there are finishes that seal like a shell and those that embed and protect. I've never left wood in the rough since I've lived in environments that were dry heat in the winter, tropical in the summer (New England's climate) or…"

Ron Roszkiewicz replied to charles e stinnett's discussion Love of Martin Guitars
"The guitar was a 000-18. Cost was close to $2000 and the bridge and fretboard had no finish on it. Wood in the raw. Not matte, not tung oil, not linseed oil. Nothing. I was pretty surprised. Maybe it slipped through the final QA. Dunno."

Ron Roszkiewicz replied to charles e stinnett's discussion Love of Martin Guitars
"I love Martin Guitars, the American company. They are such a symbol of the craft and our music. Martin has been the model for so many guitar makers and their instrument shapes are significant in the guitar vocabulary. I've never owned a Martin…"

Gurian Guitars & Intonation

My son and I both have Gurian guitars. Same Jumbo models (serial numbers B1341, 1971-72; and C2116, 1976-77) w/East Indian backs and sides. Both exhibit the same slight intonation problems. Has anyone else noticed this with their guitars? I asked someone about this who has deep experience (I'll keep the name anonymous for now) with these guitars and he said that the fret distances were not precise on Gurians. A new fretboard with precision cut slots would be needed. Other than that the guitar…See More
