I am having some difficulty in changing from one chord to another. Example from G to C to G to G7 to C. I practice quite a bit on those changes but am still having problems. Is there a way to set up for the change etc.? Any help would greatly be app…
Hey Sam, I've added you as a friend. I've been playing about 2 yrs. and my hands are slow to move. I enjoy my Seagull in fact I have two, one classical and the S-6. Both are good guitars and have a great sound.
Thanks for the friend request. It's nice to feel needed ( LOL). As far as changing between G, C , C Maj, etc, I sometimes use 3rd, 4th and 5th finger for G, as it makes the shift down to C position easier, fingers are more more easily switched to different strings. If my explanation doesn't make sense, ask someone who can explain it better. The main thing is KEEP ON PRACTICING. Good luck Sam!!
That sounds great. As for the chord changing exercises, make sure you use your metronome when you are practicing them. (You can download metronomes on your computer for free.) I would encourage you to actually strum each chord, not just work on each fingering with your fretting hand. That way you can get the sounds in your ears while you are practicing the technique.
Hi Sam, Thank you for you kind encouragement. Let me know if I can help you out as you make your way into the guitar. I see that you're a banjo player...so, once your past the initial shock of the new landscape of the guitar..you're going to fall right into place.
Hey Sam,
Thanks for your comment and your interest!
Yes, I'm still playing there, but I only play once every couple of months or so, to keep from burning out my audiences. I'll be playing there again, Friday night, July 24th from 7-9pm.
Are you playing anywhere close?
Thanks again for asking, and please stay in touch!

This is a great site. I've learned a lot and had some good fun as well. I wish I could play my harmonicas well; I'm a beginner on those too, but I love the sound. I'm more focused on the guitar for now.
I notice Max suggested a get-together of you Georgians. If that happens I'd really encourage you to go to it, even if you don't feel you could contribute. You'd be surprised, and you'll learn a lot! I was fortunate to be invited to a local acoustic music circle here in Greensboro (because I had written a song they offered to help me with) before I even started to learn guitar. The leader lent me one of his guitars while I shopped for one of my own, but I went to the circle for the first few months without the guitar while I was taking lessons -- I just played the spoons and sang! Then when I started taking the guitar it was like a door opened. Incredibly, the core group, a band called Bishop's Bridge who are all acccomplished players, let me play at a couple of their gigs even though all I could do was see which chord was the prevalent one in each song and then just play that chord when it came around! I'm doing much better now, and I will always be grateful for that experience and encouragement.
Hey Sam,
Nice to meet you! I saw your reply in the "Newb" discussion. I see that you are really into three of my favorite artists...especially James Taylor. I also see that you are from Fayetteville GA...I was born in Macon, but my parents moved here to Maryland when I was three...I spent many summers as a youth on my father's family farms in Cochran. We still have many family there. Anyway, nice to meet you.
If you get a chance to visit my website, please be sure to view the video of my son and I performing "Fire and Rain," me on guitar and vocals and him on cello, just like the original record! That would be on the "Videos" page. And if you've a mind to, please feel free to sin the Guestbook. Thanks, Edward
