Walt - You are experiencing what just about every musician experiences when they first encounter a metronome. The device is almost certainly keeping nearly-perfect time. What you are encountering is your "inner" musician negotiating with your "oute…

I agree with the general sentiments expressed here. Skype is not exactly like a live lesson, but it's a whole lot better than no lesson at all. It is certainly not the best forum for working on tone, but lots of other work can get done quite gracefu…

With blistering brevity: my Colllings 001E is on the auction block at Ebay. I just don't play it enough to warrant keeping it out of circulation. Somebody should be playing this baby every day. It's a fingerstyle MACHINE. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBa

Version 2 of my wee arrangement of Angels We Have Heard On High. The last verse-into-chorus was just not crazy enough. Two links here; one to PDF of tablature and another to a MIDI file. As soon as I buff it up myself, I'll post a recording or video.

My "Ten-In-One" CD is all done

It all went out via The Interwebs today ... graphics files and audio files, whoosh, straight to the manufacturer. It's all done, and a far cry from the sweet little fingerstyle album I thought I was making when I started a year and a half ago. But lordy, when The Muse taps you, you gotta answer. Especially if she taps you with a fricking baseball bat. For much of the making of this record I felt like I was just taking dictation from my own subconscious. Yow. But even if I do say so myself, it al… Continue

Happy New Year, all. No ... I insist.

Things are different. Maybe those bumper stickers that claim "Regime Change Begins At Home" aren't so very far off. I'm all for Hope and Change ... I really am. But friends, this new upward spike on the political integritometer is serious money out of my pocket. In the months just before election time, see, I had gotten a sw… Continue

RIP Davy Graham

Davy Graham died a while back, I just found out. Rest in peace.

Check out this way-before-its time video of Cry Me A River.

I, like many of us, fell in love with guitar in no small measure because of his "Anji."

Hi Stevie, was looking at your blog today, saw your Davy Graham RIP. Gotta agree, not enough was mentioned about his passing. What a pair of shoulders we stand on today due to him. Anyway, registered for your workshop at the Healdsburg Festival. Look forward to seeing you there!
Cheers, Ted

How do the lessons on Skype work and what is the cost. I just got a webcam for Christmas and would love to improve my fingerstyle chops.

Stevie: Let's face it. When you think of "Acoustic Guitar" the first thing that comes to mind is Big Rick and his hot guitar licks. Thank you for teaching me all I know about playing the guitar. Stevie Coyle instruction and Big Rick performance magnetism, "Priceless." Rick
