Montreal Guitar Show

I spent a very memorable four days at the Montreal Guitar Show--the official name is the Salon de Guitare de Montreal--over 4th of July weekend. No win its fourth year, this show has established itself as the premiere east coast event of its kind, and in many aspects, its completely unique.

Held at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Montreal at the same time as the world-famous… Continue

Acoustic Guitar at NAMM -- Saturday, January 16th

OK, so it's still early, but I have a few minutes of free time before meeting Acoustic Guitar contributor Gary Joyner for breakfast. As Doug Young mentioned, a great time was had at our 20th anniversary party last night. The music was great (especially when Senior Editor Scott Nygaard sat in with the band for a few tunes!), and I was reminded about what a great bunch of people the guitar "industry" consists of. What other field could you find competitor such as Larry Fishman, Lloyd Baggs, and… Continue

Acoustic Guitar at NAMM -- Friday, January 15th

It’s Day Two here at NAMM, and I just have a few minutes to report before heading to Acoustic Guitar’s 20th Anniversary Party. We’ll get into more details a bit later, but it was a fun day that started with a demo of Fishman’s latest Aura pedal, and ended with a quick glance at Takamine’s new fingerstyle guitar that Scott blogged about yesterday. In-between, I has a lot of fun playing Lowden’s Pierre Bensusan model, checking out Fabio Ragghianti’s Radical Classical model with fanned… Continue

Healdsburg Guitar Festival 2009

With this being Back to School season, I feel a bit like talking about “What I Did Last Summer.” Without a doubt, one of the guitaristic highlights was attending the Healdsburg Guitar Festival in August. Now held in Santa Rosa, California (just a few miles south of the original location in Healdsburg, California), the biannual festival turned the city’s Wells Fargo Center for the Arts into a custom guitar and guitar music temple for… Continue

More News from Summer NAMM

OK, so here's the follow-up to last weekend's Summer NAMM posts. I don't know what I was thinking that I could get them up on the first day back in the office, so please accept my apology for being a day late...

The Czech Republic’s Stonebridge guitars have been making a splash with fingerstylists such as Antoine DuFour and Richard Smith, and now the company has added to its already extended lineup of models. A new… Continue

I saw you flash by in the mob scene that was NAMM.  You appeared to be in a real rush so I didn't chase you down, but I hoped to run into you later.  I just wanted to meet you and say "Hi".  I have enjoyed some of your AG articles and online posts.  I have built a few classical guitars and have made many trips to Paracho, so I figure we would have some common interests.

Thanks for the great article on the 1974 Montfort Gibson SJ Deluxe. Really interesting the changes he made to the fretboard to achieve vibrato.
I owned an SJ Deluxe that I bought used in 1970 and never saw another one in all the years I owned it. My son still has it, but I think it probably needs a lot of work. Something interesting about the soundboard was the glue from the top bracing had migrated through the top and was quite visible under the finish. This was evident right from the time I bought it. It was still a great sounding instrument nonetheless...John

Great article on Breedlove! I had the pleasure of attending the Extraordinary Experience in 2006. I own the most exquisite CM built to my specifications with wood I selected in the shop and made lifetime friends out there in Bend. I can't say enough good things about these folks.

I just noticed the event with Tim Sparks. Unfortunately I'm at the other side of the world, but I would encourage other players in the area to check this out. I have a number of Tim's albums and appreciate his playing.

Teja, I will check out your playing, where's the best place to hear it?
