"I can't answer this question with precision, but numbers are numbers so I hope this helps a bit. I first owned an Epiphone EL00 which was the shorter scale ie 24 3/4" and used 12s on her. As a consequence the strings felt soft, easy to…"

Short scale Seagull owners who have purchased long scales.

I'm interested to hear from people who own short scale Seagulls who have added the new long scales to their collections.  Do you feel much of a difference?  Do you hear much a of difference?  Having any difficulty going back and forth?See More

FloridaGull replied to Terry Doran's discussion Finger-style on dreadnoughts and other guitars with 1 11/16 inch nuts
"If one's fingers are not-so-long, then a shorter scale length can help. If one's fingers are not-so-narrow, then a wider nut can help. Combine your hand and finger attributes - and try different scale lengths, nut widths, and neck profiles…"

Larry Shone replied to Terry Doran's discussion Finger-style on dreadnoughts and other guitars with 1 11/16 inch nuts
"That's kinda standard then isnt it? Im not sure what the measurement is on my dreadnought but my Tanglewood is smaller. I think a lot depends on hand size and finger length to be honest."

Stephen Boyke replied to Terry Doran's discussion Finger-style on dreadnoughts and other guitars with 1 11/16 inch nuts
"Most folks prefer a 1 3/4" width nut (or wider) for fingerstyle.  That does not mean a 1 11/16" nut width shouldn't be used.  It depends on the player.  Michael Hedges and Bill Mize, two incredible fingerstyle players,…"
