I hope you're doing well. I know it's coming up on a year since you lost your best friend Kody. I think of you from time to time when I see Kody's picture in your avatar and hope you are rebounding from her passing.

Mike & Kody- Your guitar is dry. Check w/Edw Spaks, but I think it is dry. It is not something I would repair, but find a luthier. I never do any repairs. Good luck.

Thank you for making the connection of friendship.  I truly appreciate it.  Congratulations on your acquisition of a new Martin D-35.  I know you are going to love it, but be patient, because you will discover a maturing of its tone over the next several years. I have owned mine now for over 30 years, and I wouldn't want to part with it.  I used to think, "If I woke up in the middle of the night, and this house was on fire, what would I try to save on the way out?"  My answer would always include my Martin D-35.  In the intervening years I have acquired several other quite nice quality guitars, but that has not diminished my regard for my D-35.  It is still a guitar I play regularly.  It's what I take to jams and music camps, and I use it in performance with other players, because it can hold its own with other louder instruments like fiddles, banjos and mandolins.  I think it has achieved a tone as warm and smooth as honey.  I have a friend who in the last couple of years who purchased an HD-28, which is itself an exemplary Martin model, but when he played my D-35, the depth of tone from the sixth string made him catch his breath.  So, you are equipped now for a lifetime of musical enjoyment.  I urge you to make the most of it.

I'm into dogs Michael, for 35 years and I know a lot about Border Collies because I know herding people, obedience, agility, rally and conformation people. I have a 19 month old German Shepherd and have been exposed to assistance and therapy dogs. You are lucky to have each other. To know more about this kind of guitar you need to go to the acoustic archtop group. Congrats on the 35! Wow! I've been looking at D Martins for almost 4o years and still don't have one, but I want one. Jim. P.S. Even though Guy's Grids are expensive, they are awesome and you'll quickly be able to answer your own questions about scales. Just my less then two cents worth.
