Fretboard dots, 9th or 10th fret?

As I'm not a gipsy jazz player myself (not yet, got plenty of time to learn), I've never noticed that the Gipsy Jazzguitars hada dot on the 10th fret, rather then on the 9th as all otherinstruments. Maybe as I started with a classical guitar with no dots, I didn't care much where the dots where!
