Hey guys !
How are you all doing ? I just wanted to take some time today to talk about the solo fingerstyle guitarist Adam Rafferty. It wasn't until I started working with Cole Clark Guitars that I become aware of Adam Rafferty and his gift. If you have never seen him play, then get ready to have your mind blown. Check out this video of him doing a classic Jackson 5 original, ABC's… Continue

To all my friends and fans in the east and midwest: I'm currently booking a July tour around a guitar workshop I'll be teaching. I would love to fill out the calendar more with a house concert or three. I'll be in VA/MD/DC/WV for two weeks starting July 4th weekend. So I could land a date the week before or on the way back to CO,perhaps in Indiana, Missouri, or Kansas. I have a comprehensive "How To Host a House Concert" guide that helps the first-time concert host through the details. Let me… Continue

Week One/Day One:
I just had my first sit down with my guitar.
First I tuned it, guess that's a really good practice to get into,
Next I took Greg's advice, starting with the G until I got a clear
then practicing the Em, and then both in combination
I pretty much have those two down right now.
Ran into a bit of trouble with the C and by the time I got to D
my hand was aching a bit.
I mainly focused on making sure that after I fingered… Continue

After playing guitar for 40+ years I finally dabbled in slide enough to discover the differences and preferences of Standard, Open E and Dropped D tuning. While I love playing electric guitar I do love the sound of the dobro resonator style sound and since I have heard you should not stress an acoustic bridge I would have to say the dropped D is my favorite. Pleasantly, it also makes singing some songs much easier.

I am starting this blog to keep the acoustic guitar community up to date on the legal proceedings against Josh Begley, the man accused of killing Taku Sakashta. Legal proceedings can be very complicated, and court procedures can appear fairly opaque to those who are unfamiliar with them. I am hoping my perceptions regarding the case will help dispel confusion and provide the acoustic guitar community with an accurate sense of what is taking place.
A bit about… Continue

Never thought I'd use this phrase but 'gee, whiz'...here I am back on the road. Actually took a couple of months off to heal what turned out to be a fractured leg (toured 3 months on that through 12 states so I don't wanna hear any whining out there!)...also, got to enjoy a couple of versions of the flu (hmmm, I DID get two flu shots...makes ya wonder).
NAMM out in Anaheim was great fun once again and I was thrilled to meet up again with many of my sponsors in the real… Continue

Ok here is the process by which I modify a thumb pick to have a profile that suits my playing better. The problem is that the standard thumb pick profile moves my hand an extra 1/4-3/8" away from the strings. For me this makes thumb picks a real problem.
This modification requires very expensive hard to find specialized guitar picks. A flat pick of your own that you like, and a thumb pick that feels comfortable to wear but has a point that is too long. Total outlay in parts about… Continue

My “back-up” guitar for stage use is an Avalon A-100 Gold Series http://www.avalonguitars.com
Avalon Guitars: premium acoustic guitars, handcrafted in Ireland.
I suppose you could call it a Lowden look-alike, though sonically, it’s quite different.
Mahogany back and sides and a lacquered spruce top
make this a very bright and zingy guitar, a little “leaner” than… Continue

After teaching 10 students with Skype, at different levels, I've determined that it is a great way to learn. You're forced to listen and look, because it's on the screen. I've developed a lesson program that I email and correspond throughout the week. I can teach you to read music, play advanced scales and theory. Fingerstyle is not a problem for me as it's my passion.
Check it out if you're interested in taking lessons from me.
Visit my site or email me to get signed up.… Continue
