New product for guitars, mandolins, etc.

Are you an outdoor performer? Do you spend a lot of time, or live in an environment where wind, sun, dust and dirt (and little furry creatures) are a way of life?

Would you like to protect your guitar (mandolin, bass, banjo, sax, etc.) from these elements? The BuskerBag™ was developed as a method of protecting your instrument against elements that would serve to harm its finish or tone.

Even in your own home, dust penetrates walls, doors, and windows, and can…

Does learning with Skype video calls really work?

So you may have seen guitar teachers advertising skype lessons lately. This still hasn't caught on completely, but it is growing as technology gets better and better.

I've actually been using skype to teach people since 2007, and have recently gotten quite a bit of press that showcases me using skype to teach people.

Here's the links to my blog, which has the videos embedded. Please take a look at it, and if you're interested in teaching lessons with skype on…

Thursday "tip"

Use a metronome, tap your foot or move your head forward and back (aka ~ "chicken style") to keep the beat of a song. There are even apps and cool electronic metronomes you can use to help you keep the timing constant, it's like having your own drummer ~ in the words of the Go-Go's "We Got The Beat"!!!

Here's a cool idea I found on-line, use an old credit card to "toughen" your fingertips. Hold the card across the palm of your hand & press each finger into the opposite edge ~ it works & it's great to do when you're reading, sitting in traffic or watching TV!

I purchased used a Batson guitar used.  The workmanship is close to perfection and design is very unique.  Check out the Batson website - you cannot help but be impressed and perhaps drool a little. If you have a chance to play one, don't miss out on the experience.  With no question, you will find this guitar in a league of its own.  The specs on my instrument are as follows

Port Orford top,   Cocobolo back and sides

Walnut binding and bevel

Ryan Style…

About my "Goodbye" video

The video for the new song “Goodbye” was both recorded and videotaped at Church House studios in Austin, TX.  It was great getting back down to the TX music scene.  I have nothing against Chicago, but there is such a noticeable difference in the attitude and recording/performance quality in a city like Austin.  We recorded for a about 6 hours on two different days, so about one day total to do the whole entire thing.  It was overall, the best recording experience I’ve had to date.   I…

Thursday "tip"

Find someone who knows less guitar skills than you and show them a skill that you can play.  It will help you reinforce the technique and when you are teaching the skill you will be thinking of it from a different perspective which strengthens your ability to play it ~ bonus, you are sharing the wonderful world of guitar with someone else!!

Guitar Lessons Smyrna TN

I just wanted to shout out to anyone near Smyrna TN that wants private guitar lessons. I offer beginning classes and welcome children as early as 7 years old. Don't go to the competition, give me a try. I have a nice big office space for lessons, not a closet, like at most music stores. It's private, so it's you and me, and not a bunch of retail people.

I run my business 100% on local customers and skype customers that are all over the world. …
