semper fidelis to fingerstyle guitar

Long time not being here. I'm working hard on my guitar skills everyday. Now I'm practising Snowing morning blues & Stars and stripes forever of Guy Van Duser. I just want to say: semper fidelis to fingerstyle guitar.

It's a sad day

Today I leaerned that the drummer in our band has liver and pancreatic cancer. It has been found also in his bones which indicates that he is not long for this world. And it had to happen to the nicest guy you would ever want to meet. Larry is the glue that held the band together. He did all of our bookings, provided rehearsal space and displayed a willingness to learn and improve his playing since he'd only picked up the drum sticks four years ago.

My heart goes out to his lovely wife… Continue

Acoustic Guitar Playing Like is was an Electric Guitar

Just wanted to put my 2 cents in for what it worth on anyone purchasing

an acoustic guitar. I hear a lot about the tone difference between

Martins, Taylors and Larrivees, which should be your main concern if you

are going to mostly strum or finger pick down on the lower part of the

fretboard. If you want to play more lead on the acoustic up and down the

neck I found the Larrivee LV-05 was the best for me after trying out

Martin, Taylors, BreedLove and everything… Continue

D'Addario/Alhambra Classical Guitar Concert Series in NYC

I recently spent a memorable evening listening to three world-class nylon-string guitarists—Cem Duruöz, Philippe Bertaud, and Rafael Aguirre Miñarro—at Weill Recital Hall, part of New York City’s landmark Carnegie Hall. The event, held October 28, was first in an exciting series of concerts presented by the D’Addario Music Foundation and… Continue

Recording

I have put up a few recordings, and I hope that people listen to and enjoy them.

I need to get some more done though, so time to get motivated. I need to record what is finished and finish what is not!

If you have a listen and you're into something similar or complementary give me a shout. I'd love to listen to other peoples compositions and perhaps collaborate?

legendary music festival, was overrun with musicians and guitars. A few miles through town at the

Bearsville Theater was an ever-growing annual assembly of luthiers,…

Still Trying to Understand the Guitar

I have a knowledge of music and chord structure. Not in depth, but enough to know that a chord is built on the Root, the 3rd and the 5th...sometimes even the 7th. I am still learning the Shapes and this has helped me immensely learn where the notes are on the Fretboard. (It ain't like a Piano keyboard where they repeat in the same place every octave!!!!) I am also learning Arpeggios and how they are played within a song..ala Jazz, for example.

But I still have trouble playing,…
