Skype has done wonders for connecting people around the world. We see it in schools, where a class in California chats with kids in Chile. Of course we see it in the home, where grandparents and grandchildren can catch up on the day's events over a meal together. And now we're increasingly seeing music instructors use the videoconferencing technology to offer lessons to students around the world.
Our video team at CNET connected with a Nashville, Tenn., based guitar teacher named…

So you may have seen guitar teachers advertising skype lessons lately. This still hasn't caught on completely, but it is growing as technology gets better and better.
I've actually been using skype to teach people since 2007, and have recently gotten quite a bit of press that showcases me using skype to teach people.
Here's the links to my blog, which has the videos embedded. Please take a look at it, and if you're interested in teaching lessons with skype on…

I just wanted to shout out to anyone near Smyrna TN that wants private guitar lessons. I offer beginning classes and welcome children as early as 7 years old. Don't go to the competition, give me a try. I have a nice big office space for lessons, not a closet, like at most music stores. It's private, so it's you and me, and not a bunch of retail people.
I run my business 100% on local customers and skype customers that are all over the world. …

So I have this little goal to have taught guitar lessons in all 50 states using skype. I emailed a bunch of music stores in states that I have not taught in, but have had no responses. I’ve even contacted my local news stations to see if they might be interested in running a story on this method of teaching.
So far I’ve taught in these states.
Tennessee (TN), Texas (TX), Florida (FL), California (CA), New York (NY), Ohio (OH), New Jersey (NJ), Missouri (MO),…

One of the greatest challenges facing the guitar teacher is finding good students, and avoiding bad students. Good students can be defined as interested, eager to work, and enthusiastic about learning guitar. They are stimulating to teach, they make you feel like you are getting "money for nothing"! Bad students are the opposite, the agony of being in the lesson is quite evident on their faces, and as the teacher, you feel like someone has opened one of your veins, and…

There are a few things I find myself repeating over and over to the many students I meet in the course of my teaching days, students of all ages, genders, and guitar styles. One is "your shoulder is tense, relax it". Another is "you have a lot of talent for guitar, but it is covered up by bad habits you got from wrong practice".Almost always, the student is shocked to hear this. In fact, they have trouble believing it. They don't think I am serious when I tell them they have a lot of talent for…

From time to time I receive books from guitar teachers who want me to read their new method book and give them my estimation of its value. Sometimes they even ask me to recommend the book, and write a blurb for them. I am then put in the position of telling them that I never do that.
The reason I don’t do that is quite simple: I have no way of knowing the value of someone’s guitar method book. It is amazing to me that they are even assuming I could know the value of their book.…

After teaching 10 students with Skype, at different levels, I've determined that it is a great way to learn. You're forced to listen and look, because it's on the screen. I've developed a lesson program that I email and correspond throughout the week. I can teach you to read music, play advanced scales and theory. Fingerstyle is not a problem for me as it's my passion.
Check it out if you're interested in taking lessons from me.

Are there any big opportunities that anyone knows of? I'm talking Network TV, major radio, superstar artist, lessons, book writing? I'm capable of anything on the guitar with some practice.
If anyone is out there looking to do online skype lessons to, I do those and would love to help you out.
