I originally, began recording my guitar playing to keep a few friends up to speed on my progress at learning to play.
After a couple of these recordings a friend branded me as 'MG Taylor', that was flattering, kinda' fun and funny; thanks, Ron.
The Acoustic Guitar Community became available, and I'm a subscriber to Acoustic Guitar magazine, so, I thought, why not, this oughta' be ... neat. I had a web site dedicated to my Amateur Flattrack Motorcycle Racing hobby, when I was involved in that, that was kinda' fun.
Then, another Acoustic Guitar Community member happened to notice some of the video and audio I had put up on my page here, and this fellow began to encourage me to try to add some lyrics to some of the tunes I'd done; thanks, Bob.
Well, this is fun putting some of my thoughts and words down to the tunes, but man, it's a bit of work. I don't mean to imply that what I've done here is good by any means, (I'm not real, happy with all of the vocals or all of the balances between the guitar and the vocals, or my playing ability), but what I have done here has taken me a bit of work and a bit of time; and a heck of a lot of takes!!
This weekend one of my wife's cousins stopped by for a visit; (coincidentally, my wife's brother, Gary; a very, experienced player, was also, here), my wife's cousin informed us that she had found my Acoustic Guitar Community page and was impressed; she really, liked the instrumental, 'Her Eyes Were Blue, Her Hair Was Red'; thanks, Val.
Val made the comment referring to me as a James Taylor 'wana be'. For quite sometime, I didn't understand why she might have thought this, then I believe I had figured it out. With all due respect to James Taylor, (I do appreciate his music), James Taylor was not thought about when I was given the 'MG Taylor' nickname ... it came from my guitar ... my 'Taylor 310ce'.
I have been working for a few weeks, now, on trying to improve some of the tunes that I have had on my page. I have been a bit impatient to get them done and up here, so I could get that off my mind and just, play and get back to learning for awhile; I mean it has been like having a 'tornado on a runaway train goin' 'round 'n''round in my brain'! None of my stuff may be very, good, but it is the best I can do ..... there just, ain't enough time in the world, and I ain't got that much energy, to make myself sound good!
I want visitors to my Acoustic Guitar Community page to realize, that I realize, that I am not a 'musician', and that I am just, a beginner guitar player, that has way, too, much time on his hands, and is having way, too, much fun.
Please, also, remember that this page is mainly, to keep my friends up to speed on my progress, and hopefully, give some inspiration or motivation to some other beginners to say, 'what the heck!', and do some recording of their own stuff, also.
Hey, you all, and you all know who you are, ... thanks.
