Hot, hot, hot - Sam Bush Band - Olathe, KS 2012

Despite the record setting 104 degree heat yesterday, I wasn't going to let it keep me from going out to see one of my favorite bands - The Sam Bush Band.  This is the 3rd time I've seen him in this venue, and it just doesn't get too much better.  The guys were just plain great!!!  From the tune "High Lonesome Sound" to the closing tribute to Levon Helm, "Cripple Creek".  The band displayed their high flying musicianship.

If you've not been to a Sam Bush concert, you really should get to one.  Sam is a great showman, as well as one of the premier bluegrass talents around.

Sam displayed his fiddle and mandolin playing along with the other great musicians in the band, they just ripped into everything they played.

That's a Collings guitar being used.  Funny, some folks have a road guitar, but this ain't no mere road guitar.  It was beautiful and had that great Collings tone.

Check out the 'stratolin'' too!"  Don't know the actual name or model, but that one seems to fit

A Big thanks to the folks in Olathe, KS for making these outdoor concerts possible, and keeping live music alive in our neck of the woods!!!

Hi Jim, yeah lots of growth, not sure it's all good, but at least live music in the park is appreciated. Sam Bush seems to be a regular.  Hope he does one next summer. The concerts are held at:

Frontier Park

15501 Indian Creek Parkway, Olathe, KS. 66062

Phil,

Where in Olathe did they have this concert?  The town has changed a bunch since I lived there in the 60s.  We would have teen dances/battles of the bands near the courthouse where they blocked off the whole street and a good time was had by all.  The dances were another source of inspiration for me to learn to play a guitar.  Nice to know that Olathe still does live outdoor music.
