Newport Guitar Festival - Day Three

Day three here in Ft Lauderdale took a decidedly soggy turn, but that hasn't stopped the show. It's a busy day, and between catching Muriel Anderson's All Star Night in a little bit and an early flight home tomorrow, I'll have to save most of the rest of my photos and comments until I get home. But here's a few to hold you till thern.

I tried to catch more of the concerts today and also checked out the "other side", the electric room, which actually had some items of interest even to acoustic players.

Here's Al Petteway demoing a Bill Tippen guitar in the Paradise Live Theatre, with an amazing sound system:

One thing that was interesting was that each performance venue had different sound facilities, giving you a chance to hear some variety. Here, Mary Flower performs in an informal setup in a large hallway area, using a Fishman Soloamp.

The electric room had a lot of surprises. Here was a useful looking gizmo I hadn't seen before, a "FretLight". The led light clips on your strings to illuminate the neck on a dark stage:

And if you think everything at a guitar show like this has to be expensive, how about this cool looking bazouki? $25! I almost had them wrap it up.

The show featured a rare appearance and two very rare workshops by Phil Keaggy. Here's Phil demoing a beautiful looking (and sounding) Brunner guitar:

Time to run off to see Muriel Anderson and her All Star cast. More when I get home!
