No Strings Attached Yet - Building My First Guitar

I retired 4 weeks ago and am starting a new chapter in this saga called life. First thing on my todo list - Build A Guitar. Name it "The Rose." That is probably not a unique name - but I like it. So.....

Today I attended Arc Guitar Building School in Winters, California where Al Calderone, the owner and instructor mapped out the plans. We finalized the layout of the instrument to be an orchestra model, 12 fret guitar and will be built with a little more depth at the bout to give the guitar a sound advantage. As a female finger style player (well at least that is the style I try to play) I really like the comfort of a small body instrument with the short scale neck.

The woods will be Peruvian Walnut back and sides,(Above Photo is my back and side wood)   Redwood (Quarter sawn) top, flamed Koa binding, Ebony fingerboard with ivory nut and saddle. The project should take about 6 months depending on the hours I spend in the shop. I will update blog as the phases progress.

Below are some photos I took at Arc Guitar.   That's Al in the first photo - doing a little quality control with the students...
