Oh, yes, I use variations of that tuning for some Stephen Stills songs, and ran into it, while learning Dougie MacLean's "Caledonia", as well. The other song of Dougie's I really like is "This Love Will Carry".
Nikki, what wonderful tonal landscapes you paint with your music. Really enjoy listening to you play. I'm in a folk/country/bluegrass phase at this writing, but love the altered tuning style you play. Just curious, are you tuning DADGAD or something else. Whatever tuning you are using is so rich to your touch.
HI Nikki, Thank you so much for your crit. I've had a number of friends and family listen to these tunes, and it's interesting, they all have a favorite, but rarely are the fav's consistent across many folks, something for everyone I guess. Anyhow, I really appreciate your opinions. Thank you! On An Easy Wind, I recently read some bits about mic placement in "Recording" magazine. I learned of the 1 to 3 rule...I placed my 2nd mic, 3 times the distance from my singing position to pick the room. I did this recording the guitar track(s) as well, but in reverse. It's a bit of a different sound. I used my MXL 990 condenser, and the room was mic was an audio technica AT2021 small diaphram condenser, the additional high end from the 2021 really helped to clarify my vocals, I think. I'll be moving my studio to a small office soon, and will then endeavor to get into mixing and cleaning up the tracks, at least as much as I can understand the DAW!?...I tend to hit the top of my guitar with my acrylic nails while I'm playing, a habit I was previously unaware of, and am training myself out of now. I'll let you know as I post new pieces...and the re-mix's as I go...I certainly value your opinions, your far deeper into it than I. Thanks so much!
Hi Nikki, I've been busy writing and recording 0n my Tascam DP-008...you expressed an interest in hearing my tunes previously. You can find 6 of them in their "works in progress stage" on www.soundcloud.com, enter "thumbstyler" in the search soundcloud box...or, 3 of these are on my page here as MP3's. I've purchased Sonar X-1 Studio for starters...but I've not even looked at it as of yet. Coming soon...lots of song ideas lately. I think If I can learn enough, I'll be happy to get a decent mix on my tunes...I think it will take forever to learn enough to master....likely send that out...let me know your thoughts! Thanks Nikki, Bob Quinn
Hi Nikki, yep, Renaissance album released 14th December 2011. Sold a handful at a local bookshop and another handful via friends and myspace/facebook friends. The album was more of a 'personal achievement' sort of thing but I do want want to sell some as well :) Just going to see if I can find more and more places to get reviews over coming months and get 'noticed'. Difficult isn't it! Starting work on a piano album soon, to be called 'Solace'. Good luck with your album - I'm sure it'll be a good one :) Cheers, Chris.
