Ken,

Thanks-Ed writes some great songs as you know and this was a fun one to learn to play. The harmonies are generated through a BOSS vocal harmony box (pedal kind of thing) that I have been trying to learn how to use. I am not a natural harmony singer so I'm hoping technology will help!!!! I downloaded Darcy and Drive from your Reverbnation page and put them (along with Forever) on my I-Pod. I also put your version of Swim With The Tide, Ed's version of Next To Nothing and my versions of Drive and Hello Woman and listened to all of them in the gym today while Iwas working out. Actually I should burn a CD will all those songs-think I will.

Hey Ken, Well once again you have used the Ken Brodie creative gene to produce another very cool song with DARCY. The story would make a movie. Good stuff. I am sharing your page to Facebook. If you are on facebook send me an invite facebook.com/DanHugen

Only problem, now that I don't fly in the Air Force anymore I'd have to mortgage the house to get over there :-).  You're right, it was good times... the Aussie pilots who would practice shooting us (B-52s) down were absolutely nuts... we'd be flying in the mountains at just a few hundred feet, and they would fly *under* us.  Oh well, should have a new song here one of these days if the kids will just give me a couple hours to myself :-).

Thanks Ken-any touch of Dylan works for me!!! I was playing with "Drive" for a bit today and will put that next on my to do list. My older son told me last night that he was listening to some of my music online and absolutely loves your version of "Swim With The Tide."

Hope all is well with you and your family.

Hey Ken, I've been told that I visited several establishments but have little to no memory of what transpired. I recall staying in a hotel also populated by Australian stewardesses and being out drank handily by them. Actually don't think I saw live music, regrettably, but ended up mostly at disco type places cranking Men at Work. One place was so loud I put balled up tissue in my ears and eventually had it extracted by a doctor 3 months later after noticing an ear ache starting. Seemed like it was always Box jellyfish season when we were there!

Ken,

PS-Work has been really crazy for me so I haven't had time to start on "Drive" yet but I will very soon.

Ken,

I just listened to Darcy. A great story and a great tune. I love the country rocker feel of this song!! I don't know if I've heard you do other songs with your band. Based on this one all I can say is more please (though you know I also love your solostuff). Shows   how versatile you are. And the song even has a happy ending-who could ask for anything more. Have they ever heard the song??

I really like the groove in" DRIVE". What a cool feel to "SWIM WITH THE TIDE". Yeah that's right I started on your play list and got locked in. "RED DIAMONDS" would make me want to toss back an ale 'cept it's 5am and need coffee. Just returned from a Blues festival in the Delta called "SMOKE ON THE WATER". My wife was commissioned to photograph the event. Pics on her website in a week or two www.momentsmadetimeless.net

Ken,

I just had a chance to listen to "Red Diamonds" and I really like it. It has a Celtic/Aussie feel to it (do those go together?) and made me think about old friends I have lost contact with too.  The song itself is a red diamond if you ask me.

Hi Ken, Great to hear back from you about your work on Jeff''s song...and your proposal to collaborate.  I have only collaborated on one song before.  Like you said happened to you, I wrote a song and loved the lyrics, but just couldn't get any melody that I liked.  SO, I sent it to my sometime bandmate who had moved temporarily to Maine and he came up with the music, which we recorded later and included on our album.  When I got my new computer setup last June (wow, I've had it now for a year!) I planned my new CD and came up with my own arrangement based loosely on the tune he wrote, although the key changed and I added different instruments. But, we still play his version live and I love it too.   So, if you would like to collaborate on a song I would love that! So, if you will email me the rough recording, I'll mull it over and see what I can come up with!  I think you have my email address but just in case:  emsparks@verizon.net.

As to your other proposal, that we record a basic track and then pass the file around and let others we know here on the community add to it, again, I think that's a fantastic idea.  I saw a video online, that I will try to find again, where they did just that...they recorded a simple beginning and as the song played through the video more and more parts were added by musicians from all over the world.  So, as they built the song parts they video taped the performances and that made up the online video...what an incredible use of this new technology!

Now, I will be out of touch with my home computer for a week or so, starting next Wednesday...not sure how connected I can be in Colorado, but let's do it!  Send me your file and we'll see what happens.  Ed

Hey Ken, The "Open Secret" song sounds great!!! You certainly gave it a wonderful arrangement and I am sure that Kirk is pleased.  I actually did that myself...I heard a song by Jeff Lustick and fell in love with it...and got his permission to record it...he really liked what I did with it too...it was still his song in terms of the words and music, just with my touch...It's on his page and it's called "Next To Nothing."  He had some kind things to say about my arrangement and performance which made it that much nicer to have done it. It was actually one of the first songs I recorded on my new recording set up...SO, two things...1. good for you for taking an interest in someone's music here in the community and taking the time and love to record it, and 2.Isn't it wonderful that we have this "place" to find these people and their heartfelt songs!!!  I am waiting fort the day someone takes one of mine and does this...what a kick that would be!  Edward

Ken,

Thank you for sharing your version of Open Secret with others. It is a fine, lovely rendition and I am happy you chose to record it. I hope others enjoy the song as well. I look forward to hearing about your performing it, too!

Ken,

It was a LOT of fun. This was a solo thing for me-I did about 5 or 6 songs including "Swim With The Tide" and your song "Drive."  These open mics are not always the best place for originals but I have to tell you that "Drive" was VERY well received. I told them who wrote it, where you were from and how I came to be doing that song. My voice doesn't do the song the same justice as yours but I am going to keep doing it as I play different places.

I am really getting into this playing out-I haven't done much of it in a long time but am feeling more confident each time and looking forward to the next time. The other 2 guys from  the acoustic trio were there and were teasing me about breaking up the group to go solo. I told them I'd be the Neil Young of the group and juggle both!!! Don't I wish.

Our school year is winding down though I do work some over the summer-how is all going for you in that regard???
