Guitar tone wood comparison-maple, claro walnut, E.I. rosewood, palo escrito

This video shows John Arnold, a professional classical and steel string acoustic guitarist, playing a fingerstyle version of "Yesterday" on five Wicklund guitars. The first is a birdseye maple OM, the 2nd is a claro walnut OM, the 3rd is a claro walnut Dreadnought, the 4th is an E. I. rosewood Dreadnought, and the 5th is a palo escrito OM. The video clips were synced with high quality audio tracks and combined together into a single song video. An interesting comparison of guitar tone woods.

Thanks for the nice comments Kevin. The maple OM and claro dreadnought were always at the top of the list for the other guitarists who have had a chance to play all five of these guitars. I personally liked the maple. You are also absolutely right about the importance of the musician in making the guitars sound good -- and John Arnold is an incredible guitarist. I also think a high quality recording puts the guitars in their best light, and Kent at Red Rock Recording did a great job and was a lot of fun to work with.

They all sound beautiful, but of course I think that is mainly due to the musician more that the instrument. If I had to choose a favorite for this particular song, I would say that the very first guitar did it for me.

I still like the sound of the "claro walnut Dreadnought"
