John Dowland: Melancholy Galliard & Allemande
Here are two pieces from one of my favorite composers. John Dowland was a great lutenist in Elizabethan times. Being a musician was a tough gig back then, you always had to be making somebody happy. And it had to be somebody with a castle who liked music enough to let musicians crash there!
I have a suspicion that my friend John was not always able to make himself happy, except probably by grabbing his axe! Melancholy was the fashion in those days, and there was much to be melancholy about.
Fortunately, like today, a musicians angst becomes the fodder for great music! Well, I only hope that John Dowland has been re-born as one of the great guitarists of our times, and is enjoying a life of ease, fame, and luxury. He sure deserves it!

I loved listening to these two pieces (twice!). Dowland has always been a favorite of mine, and you play with great feeling and control. The guitar sounds good, too. Who is the maker?
