Funny... this song reminds me an old old traditional I learned many years ago, "Stagolee" or "Stack-O-Lee". The song was included in an album, called "American Folk Singers and Baladeers" - and there was the Misissipi John Hurt (or was it Sleepy John Estes?) version, and another version, maybe sung by The Rooftop Singers. Anyway, it was about a gambler man who got shot about a game of cards... and the three first musical phrases are really similar ...

This said, I must say I really enjoyed this song and your performance: excellent guitar playing  and vocal expression. Congratulations!

I did this song (Bromberg version) at a blues jam one night. I could not believe how quite the jam got while I did it. A lady broke the silence and said it was the saddest song she ever heard. I have heard more rousing versions that sounded like a drinking song raising glasses to Delia. "Delia is gone one more round"......Isn't it amazing how a song can be done in so many different ways?
